Gas
Polymerization

ELKE A/C RECOVERY GUARD is developed to protect equipment and A/C systems from the phenomenon of HFO R-1234yf gas polymerization.

Description

The polymerization of R-1234yf refrigerant gas is a chemical phenomenon that can occur during the maintenance of automotive air conditioning systems, with potential risks for both the system and operator safety.

Technical features

  • R-1234yf (2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene) is a refrigerant used as an eco-friendly alternative to R-134a due to its low Global Warming Potential (GWP). However, if the gas becomes contaminated or is exposed to inappropriate conditions during transfer or charging, it can undergo a polymerization reaction.

  • This process transforms the refrigerant into a foamy substance that later crystallizes, blocking the charging stations’ conduits and causing irreparable damage to the equipment.
